We slightly tap the armchair to check if there is woodworm where we tap it. What do we see? We actually do see a presence of dust falling out of the actual wood wormholes. This means that there is still wood worm inside it, which is active because sometimes you can have the actual wood wormholes. But when you tap it there's no sort of light. Dusting falling out of it, which actually means that it was previously woodworm but which is no longer active. So at that stage, it's not really a problem that needs to be addressed number two: what do you want out of an armchair is basically that the joints are sound and steady.
So when you sit in the actual armchair that it feels comfortable that it's not wobbly and that you don't feel like that, you don't feel sort of unsafe sitting in an eighteenth-century armchair. What happens if the joints are not sounding sturdy, then to restore a cambered in these blocks here, which is called re blocking? This actually holds the seat, rails, nice and tight, and nice and firm firmly together, so giving it again the armchair an overall sense of strength. Solidity and steadiness step three to further ensure that the armchair is sturdy and solid.
We basically have a look at the actual joints of the armchair if the joints, if the armchair, which in some cases is very possible, we can easily sort of dismantle the armchair. Then it's not too difficult to put the joints back together, but in some cases, it's a rather sort of difficult process. So what happens, then, is that the furniture restorer basically injects glue with a simple syringe like this into the joints, and then after that is done, puts a clamp on the actual arm check to push the joints back together. This could be a process. This can be easily an overnight processor of a day.
